# About the Growth X-ray crawler

Last updated October 8, 2026

If you found `SamAwezecXray` in your logs, someone asked for a[Growth X-ray](https://samawezec.com/xray) of your site or of a site that competes with yours. This page says what it reads, what it never does, and how to stop it.

## How it identifies itself

Every request it makes to your site carries this user agent:

```
SamAwezecXray/1.0 (+https://samawezec.com/bot)
```

It does not rotate user agents, hide behind residential proxies, or try to get past bot challenges. If your site blocks it, the report says so plainly.

Four of its homepage requests also name AI vendors' published crawlers and agents after our own token, one vendor per request: OpenAI (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User), Anthropic (ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot), Google (Google-Agent) and Perplexity (PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User). This shows whether your site answers those agents differently. The request still starts with our own name and link; it never pretends to be one of them.

## What it reads

- Your public pages a buyer would see first: the homepage, pricing, docs, and the signup page.
- `robots.txt`, `llms.txt`, your sitemap and structured data.
- Public pricing pages, including when your site is one of three competitors in someone else's report.
- Public real-user speed data from the Chrome UX Report. That comes from Google, not from your server.

## What it never does

- It never submits a form, creates an account or types into a field. A real browser walks your signup up to the submit button and stops there.
- It sends only GET requests. Anything else is blocked inside the browser.
- It stays on your site. It does not follow links to other domains.
- It makes at most 25 requests to your site per scan, and paces them.
- It does not read anything behind a login.

## robots.txt is respected

It checks `robots.txt` before anything else and follows the rules for its token,`SamAwezecXray`, or for `*` when there is no specific rule. If your robots.txt asks it not to read your site, the scan stops and the report says your robots.txt asked us not to.

## How to opt out

Either of these works:

- Add this to your `robots.txt`:

```
User-agent: SamAwezecXray
Disallow: /
```

- Or email [sam@samawezec.com](mailto:sam@samawezec.com?subject=X-ray%20opt-out) with the domain. I add it to a do-not-scan list, and new X-ray requests for it are refused.

## Who runs it

Sam Awezec, an independent PLG and pricing consultant. Questions or a problem with the crawler:[sam@samawezec.com](mailto:sam@samawezec.com). How visitor data is handled is on the[privacy page](https://samawezec.com/privacy).
